Jerusalems Tanz (Jerusalemin tanssi)

Synopsis

In the village Laulumaa, life is hard, love becomes harlotry, and the water which is lacking in winter floods the village every summer. After the departure of town priest Korpela, according to whom praying doesn’t help, the residents turn to shop owner Martinson and the prophecies of Tyra the seer. What follows is a series of wild orgies involving alcohol, sex and religious fanaticism, all under Martinson’s overseeing guidance. Instead of salvation, however, the townspeople are taken away to mental institutions and prisons. Their fanaticism has left them poorer than before, with their cattle and lands neglected, and with a sense of shame that not all of them seem to be able to deal with. (Tinfo/Sunklo)
